Ensure that your S3 buckets are encrypted at rest with a customer managed key (CMK) as this is considered a security best practice and should always be done. Ensuring this is enabled will help with NIST,HIPPA, GDPR and PCI-DSS compliance.

Audit & Remediation

 

 

  • Select the Name hyperlink for the S3 bucket you would like to check.
  • Under Properties select Default encryption. If this is set to None, then choose AWS-KMS and choose a KMS key that you have already created. Select Save to save your settings.

 

 

  • Repeat the outlined steps for each S3 bucket that you have.
