03 - RDS Minor Updated Enabled

Ensure your RDS instances are set to automatically do minor upgrades

Ensure that your RDS database instances are set to automatically update on minor upgrades to ensure your RDS instances have the latest security patches and bug fixes. This is why it is considered a security best practice and should have minor updates applied. Ensuring this is enabled will help with NIST compliance.

Audit & Remediation

Login into your AWS account
Navigate to the RDS service at: https://console.aws.amazon.com/rds
On the left hand panel select Databases.

Select the DB Identifier hyperlink for the database instance you would like to check.
Under Maintenance & backups check if the Auto minor version upgrade is set to Disabled.

At top right corner of this page select the Modify button.
Scroll down to Additional configuration and then under Maintenance ensure the Enable auto minor version upgrade is checked.

Repeat the outlined steps for each db instance.
Repeat the outlined steps for each region you have rds instances running.
